Marvel Preview – 6/17 – 6/20

This week we have the end and a new beginning for Dan Slott in his runs with Spider-Man and Iron Man. Wrapping up his long run with The Amazing Spider-Man #801, and starting anew with Tony Stark: Iron Man #1. It will be nice to see someone else write Spider-Man, but you know the end is never truly the end in comics. Let’s go look at the book Marvel is publishing this week.

Spotlight

Tony Stark: Iron Man #1 – Slott/Schiti

Slott and Aaron are neck and neck for the go to guy after Bendis left, and this is a big chance for Slott to show he can do more than Spider-Man. Slott is coming over to Iron Man after writing Spider-Man for nearly a decade. Teaming with artist Valerio Schiti, Slott is bringing Tony Stark into the future. Ever evolving and ever changing, Tony Stark is the ultimate self-made hero. Always on the cusp of innovation. Stark is taking his rightful place back in the Marvel Universe.

New 6/17 – 6/20

The Amazing Spider-Man #801 – Slott/Martin

Ending his run, Slott gives us a quick, sweet send off to his run. Joined by artist Marcos Martin, Slott gives us a heartfelt, emotional story, worthy of being the end of his run. Now we know he will most likely come back at some point, even if it’s just for a special, but it doesn’t make this any less special. A decade on a character is an amazing run, and deserves to be celebrated.

Avengers #3 – Aaron/Mcguinness

Marvel’s other big shot, Jason Aaron continues his new Avengers run with issue number 3. With artist Ed Mcguinness, The Final Host part three sees our heroes brought together by fate once again. After Captain America was taken prisoner by Loki, the Avengers seeks answers to defeat the Final Host of Dark Celestials. And what other secrets will be uncovered that rewrites what we know about the Marvel Universe.

X-Men: Gold #30 – Guggenheim/Marquez

The moment is finally happening, Colossus and Kitty Pryde are finally tying the knot. In a special oversized issue, Marc Guggenheim and David Marquez bring us the ultimate union. After years of will-they-or-won’t-they, the couple decided to walk down the aisle. Jam packed with guest stars and cameos, this could be a future classic.
